Hi guys! Welcome back to the blog! Did you guys get through all of the pictures that I had in my last post about the Lady Antebellum concert? I promise that was the last post for a while that’s about an event that I attended! We’re going to start getting into more meaningful posts again, and I’m going to start with a post that I should’ve written a little over a year ago. When creating the blog, I had named each category after a song that described what I was going to be writing about, and I was super proud that I had found a song for each category with the exact meaning that I wanted it to be. During the first month of the blog launching, I had originally intended to start with a series of posts about what each category was going to be about since they weren’t named like they normally would’ve been on a blog. Each song had a specific reason for being chosen for a category on the blog, and I had wanted to explain those reasons to all of you but never found the right words to do so. Now we’re here a year later, and I’m going to do my best to explain my reason for giving my guest bloggers “Square Pegs”.
For instance, my music category was called Just Another Song after the Lucy Hale song that talked about how a girl was having a good day until she heard a song on the radio that had a lot of meaning to her. It might not have been an important song to someone else but to her, it wasn’t “just another song” because of the memories and emotions that rose within her whenever she heard that song.
When I was choosing names for my categories and came along to naming my guest bloggers, I wanted them to have a name that was just as unique and important as my other categories. So I began to search and search for the perfect song that described this unique group of people that I had hoped would be writing with me on the blog. I had one song in mind that fit perfectly but just had to make sure I couldn’t find a better fitting song than this one. After a long while of searching, I came to the conclusion that I wouldn’t find a better song than the one that I had basically already decided on in my head and that song was called Square Pegs by Kelsea Ballerini. The song is about how the world would be boring if we were all the same, and how all of us together make up our world. To quote the song: “everybody gotta be themselves, square pegs make the world go ’round.”
The song was perfect and exactly what I pictured Authentically Alison would be in the beginning and what I still hope it can be. (Although just a little bit differently these days. More on that to come in the future. 😉 ) I pictured it as a community of people shared the same passion that I did about living life authentically – as real and honest as possible. I didn’t want it to be just me writing on this blog, even though it was my blog and my name was a part of the title. No, I wanted to have that sense of community from the beginning, and I knew all the bigger, popular blogs had guest bloggers, so I thought I needed to have some even thought I was just starting out. So I put a list together in my head of who I thought as living their life authentically and took a leap of faith and decided to send them all a mass invite to write with me on the blog. A lot of them turned me down mainly because it was so new and they didn’t think they would have time. But I had a faithful few of about six girls that had said yes to joining me on this crazy blogging journey.
I had come up with a schedule and how everything would be set up “professionally” so that down the road when I was “popular” it would be easy to keep track of “all of my guest bloggers” that I planned on having. I was more on top and put together with their schedule than my own! I should’ve been a guest blogger on my own blog! LOL! I was so thankful that these girls had enough faith in me to join me on this crazy blogging journey that I was just starting on, and agreed to write for this new idea that I had come up with. That little group was the first to see the ever-changing design of the blog in the early days, and my biggest supporters as the blog took shape before it launched on September 20, 2016. I tried to tell them “thank you” as often as I could, but probably not enough, and I never did recognize them formally on the blog all at once. I had also intended to introduce each one of them with this kind of post back during the launch days but also failed to do so. Sorry, I never wrote a post like this back then guys, I hope you all know how much I appreciated the time you took to write your posts, and how you all stayed on schedule when I failed to do so! Thanks for believing in me and my crazy blog dream and supporting me! Joanna Malcom, Morgan Pynn, Shanah Castillo, and JoAnne, you girls were some of my biggest supporters and I will never forget that! Thank you!
Now these days, I only have two guest bloggers due to some personal differences, different dreams, and the changes that I’ve been gradually making in the past year: changing the blog over to a blog with the purpose of living a life of Biblical integrity. But the vision of guest bloggers still rings true: a group of people that value the purpose of the blog and to live a life as real and honest as possible. You’ll be hearing from them maybe sometime this Fall but for sure in the new year! Shanah and Ashley have been helping me brainstorm a bit for the new things in the new year and have been patiently waiting while I make up my mind on their next assignments. I appreciate you two sticking by me in the middle of all of the changes that’ve been happening on the blog!
I know I should’ve written this kind of post a year ago, but I think this was the right kind of post to celebrate a year of blogging. It’s reliving some of the past years, and getting back to some of the “whys” behind what used to be on the blog. The blog is actually one year old today, so thank you all for a year of blogging, and the crazy not so predictable blogging schedule that I’ve kept in the past year. You guys have stuck with me through my weird schedule of posting and then not posting and being super honest and then not being super honest. So thank you guys for that! I can’t wait to bring you along on the journey as I gear up for the proper rebrand and relaunch of the blog in January 2018! There are so many things that I’m looking forward to this Fall, and that includes working with a company that shares in the vision that I have for the blog and all that it can be! So stay tuned to all of my social media accounts and the blog for all the latest news on those things!
Until next time,
