Name: Alison Adkins
Tell me about your family: I’m the oldest of four kids – two younger brothers and one younger sister – and live with my parents.
Tell me what you like to do for fun: I love to watch TV, mostly binge watch my favorite tv shows on Netflix since I don’t have regular cable anymore. In the Winter, I love to crochet gifts for my friends and family, and am currently working on two scarves for my co-workers. I also love to bake, and just baked about 144 cookies on Sunday for my work cookie exchange and for a Christmas Cookie Tutorial post, that will be up sooner than this post! I love listening to music, writing, editing pictures, and of course, working on the blog! 🙂
What are your goals? My goals are to be able to find a rhythm and schedule for the blog, and to inspire people with this blog. I also want to be more active and fit – ironically speaking with the new year right around the corner, but I really do want to be more active and fit. Y’all help me stay motivated if I ever let you know that I’ve begun working on that in the future, okay? 🙂 I would love to move to Nashville, TN one of these days in the coming future.
What are your dreams? My dreams are to meet an amazing guy, get married, have kids, and be able to successfully make a career out of what I love to do, which currently varies depending on the year. Lol. If I’m able to blog full time one of these days then that would be great, but if I find something else that makes me happy, and I’m able to make a living off of, then that’s great too.
Reba McEntire Favorites Quiz:
Song: Over the years it always seemed to change, especially when I listened to Reba’s music daily, but I’ve always been drawn to Till You Love Me for some reason. There’s literally so many songs I could name right now, but I usually I’m drawn to the story sings which Reba is famous for singing.
Album: Reba’s albums are just as hard to nail down just one, but there’s two albums that I love in their entirety which happen to be If You See Him, and Keep On Loving You. There’s so many great songs on them, and of course, some amazing story songs.
Movie: Well, I think I’d have to say my favorite movie is Forever Love. It’s just so good! It’s got a really good storyline, and the fact that it’s kind of based on a true story may be the reason I love it so much.
TV Show: THAT’S SO EASY!! REBA the TV show!! Man, I have so many good memories watching this, quoting this, and watching this with Morgan and Chanelle over text (Yes, this is a thing.) and also on Skype.
Decade: Oo this is kind of a hard question because sometimes I’ll really be into like the 90s, 00s, or 10s. But I think my all time favorite decade would have to be the 90s because I mean come on, Reba’s 90s tours!! SO jealous I was born in the late 90s and missed all of that awesomeness!
Get to Know Me: Past
How Old Were You? 15
Occupation: Student, babysitter, musician.

Favorite social media: Twitter
Get to Know Me: Present
How Old Are You? 20 (Six months until I’m 21!!)
Occupation: Assistant Infant/Toddler Teacher
Where Do You Live: St. Louis, MO, United States with my parents
Favorite social media: Facebook, mostly because all of my co-workers are on there.
Where and When Did You Meet? Chanelle: Twitter, Fall 2012. Morgan: Reba App, Winter 2011
How Long Have You Known Them? Chanelle: 4.5 Years. Morgan: 5 Years.
How Close Do You Consider Yourselves: Acquaintance, Friend, Close Friend, Best Friend, Family? Best Friends, even though we don’t talk nearly as much as we used to. Since we’ve met, we’ve been through thick and thin, and I’ve been blessed to have them to lean on.
Is it like a normal friendship? I feel like it’s a normal friendship. I mean, it’s definitely been normal since I’ve met them and really gotten to know them. We just don’t get to hang out in real life, and sometimes it can be a day or so, sometimes more, between conversations. But I think that’s pretty normal.
Do you consider it to be normal? I absolutely consider it to be normal, I mean in the age of technology that we live in now, if you knew someone who didn’t have an internet best friend that’d probably be abnormal. Lol. Real friends and internet friends seem to be about equal in numbers right now, but I definitely have a very soft spot for internet friends.
Could you imagine life without internet friends? No, I really couldn’t because it’s been so long with internet friends that I wouldn’t even know what life would be like without them. I just love ’em so stinking much! 😀
What would it be like if you’d never met? Probably lonely. When I’m bored and don’t feel like hanging out with my friends in real life, which let’s be honest, I’m not always hanging with friends here because everyone’s always so busy so it’s nice to be able to just text a friend and talk. During middle school and high school I had a lot less friends because I got really selective so I definitely would’ve had less friends than I do now.
Do you know others this way? I do.
If yes, how many others and did you meet them the same way? Although I don’t keep in the best contact with the others that I do know. I know a girl named Laura, who I met through Project Inspired. There’s also a whole bunch that I know about through Twitter and such, but not talked to, and then there’s Jacqui, Fallon, Jazminn, and Amber. So 5?
Have you met them in real life? I’ve met Jacqui and Fallon down in Nashville on my Senior Trip when they moved there so Jacqui could try to start her singing career. (Let it be noted that she moved from Australia, and Fallon from California.)
Do you want, wish, or hope to meet in real life? I would love to meet all of my internet friends at least once in real life.
The easiest and best things about long distance/social media built friendships: Hmm, being able to text whenever. Although I guess technically you can do that with any friend, real life or internet… It’s so easy to vent to them, and really tell them how I feel because I can type it out.
The hardest and worst things about long distance/social media built friendships: Distance. Definitely the hardest for sure. And timezones. Although the only real timezone struggle was when Jacqui lived in Australia. Not being able to hang out in real life, I really wish we could do that.
Outsider Questions (Alison’s Parents)
How do you keep it real? How do you go beyond and beneath the fake, superficial social media aspect of it? I feel like it’s really easy to keep it real because we’ve always been super honest with each other. I felt it super easy to be honest with them. Maybe because at first they didn’t live near me, and I could truly be myself with them. We love to joke and kid around, but we also know how to have those deep conversations.
What differences are there?
- Legal Drinking Age: 21
- Driving Ages–
- permit age: 15
- license age: 16
- Voting Age: 18
- Currency: US Dollars
- When and what holidays are observed, and celebrated? What traditions does your family have for each? Holidays are pretty much the same except I know Thanksgiving is in October in Canada, and then they don’t have 4th of July, it’s Canada Day.
- What’s the weather like throughout the year? Summers get up to about 100 degrees, and Winters can be I think single digits? Someone correct me on that if I’m totally off. After like freezing I feel like it’s just bitterly cold. Lol.
- Is there any words or phrases that you know are different? Well, there’s the stereotype – Eh. I know they spell favorite like this: favourite. Other than that, I don’t really know lol. Some stuff is different but then I just ask and get an explanation. Some restaurants are in Canada and some not, but have similar restaurants like Taco Bell is like Taco Time in Canada.
- What’s the deal with Canadian Bacon? Well, it’s a pizza topping, and I think it’s just a fancy name for ham. Lol
